The Woodland Trust Chooses Zonzoo

E-mail Print PDF

The Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity which owns and cares for more than 1,000 woods, has chosen Zonzoo to help it raise money through mobile phone recycling.

Users of zonzoo.co.uk, one of the country’s leading mobile phone recycling websites, will be given the option of donating 5% of their phone’s value to The Woodland Trust. A second option will give the user the opportunity to donate 100% of their phone’s value to The Woodland Trust.

Zonzoo is Europe’s fastest growing green brand and last year recycled nearly two million mobile phones. It will treble that figure in 2010 with recycled mobile phones from its seven key territories: UK, Germany, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Portugal and Austria.

According to The Woodland Trust, the UK is one of the least wooded countries in Europe with just 12% woodland compared to 44% on the continent. The charity’s long term goal is to double native UK woodland. Each year the Trust plants more than half a million trees, which provide vital habitats to some of the country's most endangered species, such as the dormouse and the red squirrel.

The Woodland Trust’s aim is to involve as many people as possible in tree planting through events across the country. The charity’s Tree For All project has so far engaged more than 1.5 million children in planting over 6.5 million trees. The project has also sent out nearly 50,000 ‘Hedge and Copse’ packs to schools and youth groups, which has led to the planting of 130 miles of hedgerows across the UK.

Colin Armstrong-Bell, Zonzoo chief executive officer, said:

“Zonzoo is a strong believer in giving to good causes and we are fortunate in having some of the UK’s best charities partnering us in various initiatives. Making it easy for our customers to give to a chosen charity is very important for Zonzoo. I am delighted that we have added The Woodland Trust to our roster of charities and look forward to working with them.”

Yasmine Davies, from the Woodland Trust said:

“The Trust is thrilled to be in partnership with Zonzoo which is doing an admirable job of recycling mobile phones, which may otherwise end up being dumped on landfill and polluting our natural environment.

“If you have an old mobile laying around your house, why not recycle it with Zonzoo and help raise money for the Woodland Trust at the same time! The Trust will use the money raised through this partnership to manage and protect our precious woodland, which will be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Zonzoo recycles mobile phones from the public, for charities and for such corporate customers as Nectar, Tesco, T-Mobile, Telenor, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone.
